What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps people recover from trauma and other upsetting experiences.

When we go through something distressing, the brain doesn’t always store the memory in the usual way. Instead, it can become “stuck” so that even years later the memory can feel raw - like it’s happening all over again.
These memories may be triggered by reminders or they can surface out of nowhere, bringing intense emotions, physical sensations, or beliefs like “I’m not safe” or “It’s my fault.”

EMDR uses gentle left-right stimulation (such as eye movements, taps, or sounds) while you briefly focus on aspects of the memory. This helps the brain to process and “file away” the experience so it loses its emotional charge.
Over time, people often find the memory becomes less vivid and painful - and they feel more free to move forward.



How can EMDR help me?
EMDR is best known for treating trauma and PTSD, including both single-event trauma and complex or developmental trauma. It’s also used to help with issues that still carry emotional weight, such as:
